A deliberately different, John Henderson designed, slightly quirky B & B in Bethlehem, Tauranga – situated next door to Somerset Cottage Restaurant, a long established restaurant and cookschool

About

Conveniently situated just across the road from Bethlehem Shopping Centre, and right next door to Somerset Cottage Restaurant, the Studio was designed to take full advantage of the magnificent vista out over a stand of centuries-old native bush. Bethlehem sits equidistance between both stunning hikes up in the Kaimais, and one of NZ’s top beaches in the expanse of sand at Mt Maunganui. In between there are a range of locally owned retail and food businesses that we’d be delighted to direct you too.

Otherwise we have lots of books and other reading material at the Studio, a very relaxing outlook, and easy off-road walks right on your doorstep.

This beautiful studio accommodation for one or two people is the perfect complement to what’s on offer at the restaurant (dining and cookschools) or equally can be used as a space that’s totally private and self contained.

The choice is yours.

THE ACCOMMODATION

First and foremost, the Studio has been created as a space to relax in, where NZ design gets to be showcased (wait until you see the Sarah Backler Ceramics light up close!)

A kingsize bed up on the mezzanine sleeps 1 to 2, with wonderful vistas of the native bush beyond.

Downstairs simple kitchen amenities segue into comfortable seating along with a Brendon Catley table – for inhouse dining – and some of our personal library is also at your disposal.

If your choice is to be totally private, then street access and private parking are quite separate from the restaurant, and you are more than welcome to remain completely apart and enjoy the seclusion. And should you so desire, we’re happy to bring a restaurant cooked dinner over to you on the nights that the restaurant kitchen is open – Wednesday to Saturday.

Or if you’d like to avail yourself of what we have available at the restaurant, be that dining or cookschools, we can be accessed by a short wander along the private path between the two properties.

We’d be delighted to welcome you.

The Restaurant

Somerset Cottage restaurant was established back in 1986 and continues to be run by Anne and Rick, who remain as committed to the notion of good food and warm hospitality as they ever have.

Open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner, we’ve also run daytime Cookschools in the restaurant kitchen for over 25 years. The latest schedule is always up on the restaurant website, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries about using the restaurant facilities.

As a guest of the Studio, we would be delighted to welcome you to the restaurant for dinner with a complimentary pre-dinner drink. If you’d rather we brought dinner to you in the Studio, you can choose from the current restaurant menu or we can prepare a dinner platter – on the nights that the restaurant kitchen is open.
